ADMISSION AND REGISTRATION CONDITIONS

In order to apply to the doctoral program of the Civil Engineering Department in our university, those who have a bachelor's degree or master's degree with thesis, and those who completed their master's degree or those having a bachelor's degree of at least 10 semesters except preparatory classes must have at least 55 ALES points. Those who will apply with a bachelor's degree of less than ten semesters excluding preparatory classes, must have at least 80 ALES points and at least 80 out of 100 or 3 out of 4 undergraduate graduation average.Those applying to the doctoral/proficiency in art programs must get a score of at least 55 from YDS or an equivalent score from an exam the equivalence of which is accepted by the Interuniversity Board. In order for foreign national candidates to be admitted to the graduate programs, they must have a diploma of a higher education institution in Turkey or a diploma of an institution the undergraduate or master’s degree education of which is accepted as equivalent by the Council of Higher Education.

Foreign students who will apply to the doctoral program must get a score of at least 55 from YDS in one of the foreign languages accepted by the Interuniversity Board, other than their mother tongue, or an equivalent score from an exam accepted as equivalent by the Interuniversity Board. The Senate may increase the minimum scores, if necessary, according to the characteristics of the programs to be admitted. Foreign students who graduated from a higher education institution in Turkey are subjected to the same conditions as the students from the Republic of Turkey regarding the ALES score. They are required to obtain an equivalence certificate from the Council of Higher Education and a Turkish proficiency certificate from TÖMER. Turkish proficiency certificate is not required in departments that teach in a foreign language. The administrative board of the institute is authorized to determine the admission requirements for foreign students. In the evaluation of student admission to doctoral programs; if there is no interview, 50% of the ALES score, 30% of the graduate grade point average and 20% of the foreign language score are summed up in the calculation of success score. In the departments where the interview exam is made, 50% of the ALES score, 15% of the graduate grade point average, 15% of the foreign language score and 20% of the interview exam are summed up. Except the preparatory classes, the undergraduate grade point average is used to calculate the success score for those who will apply for a doctorate with a bachelor's degree of less than ten semesters. The success score must be at least 60. Candidates above 60 points are placed in the relevant programs according to the announced quotas, in order from the highest score. In case of the equality of points, the candidate with a higher ALES score is preferred. The candidate who does not take the interview exam is considered unsuccessful.

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Students who come to the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program in our University through lateral transfer are subjected to the "REGULATION on GRADUATE EDUCATION-TRAINING and EXAMINATION in ERCIYES UNIVERSITY, SECTION THREE ARTICLE 17". Foreign students coming to the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program in our University are subjected to the" REGULATION on GRADUATE EDUCATION-TRAINING and EXAMINATION in ERCIYES UNIVERSITY, THIRD SECTION ARTICLE 18". Students who come to the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program in our University to study as a special student are subjected to the" REGULATION on GRADUATE EDUCATION-TRAINING and EXAMINATION in ERCIYES UNIVERSITY, THIRD SECTION ARTICLE 16". Course substitution in the Civil Engineering Ph D Program in our university is subjected to the "REGULATION on GRADUATE EDUCATION-TRAINING and EXAMINATION in ERCIYES UNIVERSITY, SECTION FOUR ARTICLE 23".

MEASUREMENT and EVALUATION

In order to be considered successful in a course in the Civil Engineering Doctoral Program, students enrolled in the program must get at least a CB grade.



GRADUATION CONDITIONS

The student enrolled in the program is required to take a minimum of 240 ECTS. Courses equivalent to  60 ECTS, including at least 7 courses (one of which is about research with scientific methods, and publication ethics) and a seminar, 30 ECTS doctoral qualification, 30 ECTS thesis proposal, 25 ECTS thesis study taken during thesis term of at least 4 semesters, and 5 ECTS specialization courses. Undergraduate courses taken by the student during the doctoral period are not substituted for the doctoral course load. The student has to pass the thesis proficiency exam and the thesis monitoring committee successfully during his/her doctoral education.

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Civil engineers can work as a designer (project engineer) or site engineer (field engineer or supervisor) in public institutions and private organizations. Both as a designer and a field engineer, they can work in available institutions and organizations in such wide range of fields as housing, business centers, high-rise buildings, industrial structures, tower and transmission lines and facilities, highways and railway lines, water structures, dams, coastal and port structures, retaining structures, ground improvements, etc. or they can become a company owner by establishing their own company if they want. They can work in the position of Civil Engineering in all ministries, especially the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, in the directorates of the ministries (Highways, State Hydraulic Works, Ilbank, etc.) and in the positions in the municipalities. Thanks to the program being a member of MÜDEK, there are opportunities to work abroad as the diploma will be valid in many countries around the world, including Europe.
